SK C&C Partners with Hortonworks Over Big Data Business

 

 

 

SK C&C (www.skcc.com) announced on August 20 that it signed an MOU for big data business cooperation with Hortonworks, a global leader in open-source Hadoop software.

Founded by the engineers of the original Yahoo! Hadoop team in 2011, Hortonworks is recognized as one of the three major players in Big Data Hadoop solutions along with Cloudera and MapR. The company provides a wide range of related services, including development and distribution of commercial Hadoop platforms, tech assistance, consulting, and Hadoop training.

SK C&C with its own cloud-based Big Data analysis platform has been working with its sister companies of SK Group, including SK Telecom, SK Planet and SK Broadband, in the Big Data market. In early 2013, SK C&C formed a Big Data taskforce to seek new business opportunities in industry-specific Big Data services.

 

 

SK C&C and Hortonworks plan to establish a mutual technical partnership focused mainly on Hadoop technology, and develop various Big Data services and a technical support system that are industry-specific in various areas, including telecommunications, finance, semiconductor, security and manufacturing.

Through this collaboration with SK C&C, which has extensive IT service experience, Hortonworks aims to secure more Big Data service opportunities in various businesses and achieve localization of a technical support system to provide premium services to customers.

Senior Vice President Lee Byungsong, head of CV Innovation Group of SK C&C, said “We plan to provide more stable Big Data services to customers based on SK C&C’s extensive IT project experience and Hortonworks’s technical expertise in Hadoop, and by using Hortonworks’s training programs, we also plan to establish a system to train Hadoop-based Big Data specialists."

SK C&C is planning to set up technical cooperation and a support system in the Hadoop and big data fields while working on various types of big data services tailored for diverse industries.

 

Hadoop is an open-source software framework for distributed storage of data. Hadoop systems are used to establish a distributed processing system for easy processing of large scale data.
